Klout.com recently become more useful as it now updates daily – and seems to reflect more accurately twitter activity. Just out of interest I did a quick comparison of the klout score, as of today, for a range of university (mostly Swedish) twitter accounts.
This gives us some insight into how well our accounts are performing against others. True Reach seems less critical- for calculating the overall score- than the Amplification and Network scores, with Amplification having the most correlation with the overall Klout score.
The public tool only gives the overall figures, and does not provide any data over time, but – if you’re investing in your twitter account – then it does give some measure of the effect of your actions relative to your competitors. Keeping an eye on this, over time, would allow some identification of whether your competitors are pulling ahead in their use of twitter.
Hi John,
can I ask you how do you get those data (True Reach, Amplification and Network) for every twitter name?
Thank you,
Sergio
Hi Sergio, Thanks for your comment! The interface has changed since I wrote this article, but the data is still there and findable. When you are logged into klout, place the name of the twitter account you are interested in taking a look at up in the search box on the top right. This will then compare that account, with the twitter account you are logged into klout with. Under the comparison graph that klout displays, you will see all the true reach, amplification etc data as well as their overall klout score. If you want to get an average figure for a months worth of data (which is as much as it shows), then you’ll need to do a bit of manual data entry. I hope this helps. What kind of tweets are you interested in comparing?
Hi John,
Thanks for your answer!
I am interested in comparing the Klout scores of our university tweets, #univGroningen, with other Netherland’s universities.
Thank you for this and other posts on your blog, it helps a lot!
Hi Sergio, You’re very welcome! I’ve not posted about this yet, but a while ago I made a comparison of university twitter accounts by analysing the number of @, RTs and the nature of their tweets (I divided these into ‘comment’, ‘news’ and ‘recruit’ (when the tweet was totally focused on student recruitment)); this then meant I could get an insight into how different universities were using twitter. Some were just broadcasting, others were much involved in creating a conversation. You could consider something similar (though it can be labour intensive) if you want to get insight into how your twitter activities compare to others. I may actually get around to writing the post someday!!
